Yoga as an Exercise Routine

With growing and changing methods for weight loss and balance in nutritious value, Yoga has become a popular method for focus on several different areas of the body.  By using Yoga as part of your exercise routine, it can serve as a good supplement to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.  Yoga is known to concentrate on several different areas of the body, allowing for a change and growth in your bodies functioning.

Yoga is an ancient practice that comes from India.  It is not only a source of exercise from this tradition, but also a way to find enlightenment.  There are four major types of Yoga that are available for practice; however, the one usually used for fitness purposes is Hatha Yoga.  From here, Yoga has divided into several different mixtures of practice, such as partner Yoga and Yoga in combination with other forms of exercise.

The word Yoga means yoke, which can be translated into uniting or joining.  From here, Yoga will use specific methods and movements to create a unity of your body.  This is done first through using the breath to unite your body with your mind and spirit.  By using the breath, it adds to focus of your body as well as creates a different pace and flow throughout your body.

From here, Yoga focuses on several different areas in your body.  The first is strength.  This is done with the poses that are held.  Each will focus on strengthening specific areas of your body, such as the arms and legs.  By moving into these different positions, it causes the muscles to be strained for a given amount of time.  This then builds the muscle in that area.

The next focus in Yoga is balance.  There are several specific moves and poses that are held for a given amount of time.  The balance is known to improve several different parts of the body, including circulation and general flow of your system.  Working on balance will also create a more effective and balanced inner balance of your system.

The third major focus of Yoga is flexibility.  This is done through certain twists that are done in the Yoga poses.  Through time, you will be able to move further in each of these moves.  If you are beginning Yoga, the flexibility will start by moving your joints outwards and opening your muscles.  From here, you will find that you will be able to twist and move into certain positions easier, as well as with more length.

The idea of Yoga is one of growing popularity in the West from it’s origins in India, as well as a religious type of practice.  Those who practice Yoga are working on uniting body, mind and spirit as well as opening different areas of the body.  Yoga has known to be an effective workout, no matter what your goals may be.  When practicing Yoga, you can find a variety of teachers that will offer you an effective variation of Yoga and method for strengthening, toning, balancing and allowing your body to become more flexible.

Yoga is not without it's Christian critics

Many in the Christian circles are dead set against the practice of yoga, citing the Hindu background of yoga and claiming that the practices of yoga are designed to have the practioner become one with other gods.  It is considered to be another facet of the new age movement by many Christians.  Christians hold to one God in three "persons" (The Trinity) Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and to give recognition to another so called god is considered to be blasphemy.

There have been attempts to create what is being called "Christian Yoga" but even this is being opposed in many circles.  Better Your Health will be doing further research into this matter, and by signing up for our newsletter, you will be notified as soon as the material is availiable.
