Discover Yoga

Kevin Caldbeck

As we become stressed out, we forget the essence of life due to the pressure and demands of life.  We often lose touch of with those we used to spend time with, and some of us even lose touch with ourselves.

Due to deadlines and daily hassles, we feed ourselves rushing about most of the time, leaving us with little time to have concentrate on physical awareness and think. This is where many feel that the practicing of yoga can help them to regain some control over their bodies, minds, and lifestyles.  One benefit of yoga is the toning of the muscles of the body, and an increase in stamina.

There has been some research which seems to point towards yoga helping people control anxiety, chronic fatigue, arthritis, asthma, blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, epilepsy, headaches, stress and many more illnesses and health problems.

So the big question should be: 'What is Yoga?'  A basic definition of yoga might be that it's a system a system of developing the mind and body using natural methods.  Now that is a pretty simplified explanation, but there are so many different variations, and many would have a more definative answer based upon their practices.

Is Yoga for Everyone

The quick answer would have to be NO.  Many persons should not attempt to begin yoga without first checking with a certified expert in the field.  Certain physical limitations may make it impossible, or further endanger the persons health.  Once again a trained professional should be able to point you towards techniques that will be safe and productive for your particular situation.

Yoga is not without it's Christian critics

Many in the Christian circles are dead set against the practice of yoga, citing the Hindu background of yoga and claiming that the practices of yoga are designed to have the practioner become one with other gods.  It is considered to be another facet of the new age movement by many Christians.  Christians hold to one God in three "persons" (The Trinity) Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and to give recognition to another so called god is considered to be blasphemy.

There have been attempts to create what is being called "Christian Yoga" but even this is being opposed in many circles.  Better Your Health will be doing further research into this matter, and by signing up for our newsletter, you will be notified as soon as the material is availiable.
