Youll Quit Smoking Once you Know whats in your Cigarette
You'll Quit Smoking Once you Know whats in your Cigarette If you are looking for a reason
to quit perhaps the best reason is what is in the cigarette you are putting to our lips. Everyone knows about the
nicotine and the tar but what about the other chemicals that are contained in each and every cigarette. With four
thousand chemicals in each one, sixty of which are known to be cancer causing, and four hundred that are known to
be toxic, it seems like a good idea for cigarette smokers to know what is in the average cigarette. Perhaps if they
did more cigarette smokers would quit. Some of the better known ingredients include nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide,
formaldehyde, ammonia, cyanide, arsenic and DDT. This is a scary list and it is just the beginning. As most people
know nicotine is the addictive agent in cigarettes. It has several affects on the body of the smoker. It acts as an
appetite suppressant, a stimulant and a depressant all at the same time. It affects the heart, slips into the
bloodstream and travels to the nerves. Cigarettes calm many people but the truth is the nicotine is a poison and
too much can cause an overdose. Tar is the other well known harmful ingredient. The tar is inhaled into the lungs
with the final puff of a cigarette containing double the amount as the rest of it. The tar is what causes the black
stuff that sticks to the lungs. The more you smoke the more of it there is and the more damage it does. Legislation
is being talked about to force cigarette companies to divulge all of the ingredients in cigarettes. Most of this is
being met with legal groups representing cigarette companies arguing that this is not necessary. Some companies are
willing to let the public know what they put into cigarettes. Some of the ingredients include molasses, patchouli
oil, sugar, artificial licorice flavor, menthol, artificial milk chocolate, chocolate flavor, vanilla extract, and
cedarwood oil. All cigarettes have some type of flavor enhancer to remove the bitterness. Others use chemicals for
certain purposes. There is one chemical used to keep the cigarette burning, this chemical is similar to rocket fuel
and so can keep the end of the cigarette at a very high temperature. There is ammonia in cigarettes. This chemical
is often used to clean bathroom fixtures. They put this into to help the smoker get more nicotine. This helps to
keep the smoker addicted to cigarettes. There are also many different insect killers as well as benzene,
formaldehyde, and nickel; all of which have shown links to cancer. This is just a few of them many chemicals and
strange ingredients that have been added to each and every cigarette that is smoked. These are not innocent things
and whether they are designed to encourage smokers to pick up a cigarette, keep them from falling apart or give
them an improved flavor, smoking cigarettes is a dangerous hobby. Seeing even a few of the four thousand
ingredients in the average cigarette should be enough to convince anyone to quit smoking.
