Some Tips to Make Quitting Smoking a Little Easier
Some Tips to Make Quitting Smoking a Little Easier If you are ready to quit smoking the
best way to do so is to follow a few simple tips to help make it as easy as possible. Once you have set your
quitting date see if someone you are close to would like to quit with you. This can be a family member, friend or
co-worker. Quitting with someone gives you some extra support and that can be helpful. If there is no one to be
your quitting partner, do not feel bad, you have the motivation, you will succeed. Before you reach your quitting
date get yourself a journal. To start with note your smoking habits. Keep track of when you are most likely o have
a cigarette. See what things you do that tie into your smoking habit. For example, do you smoke on the way to work?
Do you smoke after a meal, after sex or before going into your workplace? All the things you notice will help you
as you begin to change your daily habits to prepare for quitting day. Before you quit try to do things differently.
Put your cigarettes in a different pocket or different drawer. Try not to tie your cigarette smoking into other
events. Just have a cigarette. Change the places you smoke. Try to only have a cigarette when you are outside. No
more smoking in the house or car. When the craving hits you do not pick up a cigarette right away. Wait a few
minutes; be in control of the smoking instead of the smoking controlling you. When you get a cigarette craving try
to eat a healthy snack instead. All this things will help you get ready for your quitting day. Instead of buying a
carton of cigarettes buy only one pack. That way you will not feel the need to finish the carton before you stop.
Another thing that disrupts the cigarette habit and prepares you to quit is to change brands. This does not mean
smoke light cigarettes and convince yourself that they are healthier, it is simply another means to disrupt the
routine. On the day you quit you must throw out any leftover cigarettes or give them to a smoker you know. Get rid
of your ashtrays. Wash them and put them away where they will not be easy to get; the garage is a good place. Later
you can use them as candy dishes. Take your car to the car wash and vacuum it out, maybe get it shampooed so it no
longer smells like stale cigarette smoke. You may want to do the same to your carpets and furniture. It may sound
like an extreme thing to do, but it will get the reminder out of your home and make it fresh and clean for your new
healthier lifestyle. When the craving comes eat a healthy snack, chew gum, or suck on a hard candy. The first few
days will be the hardest so do not be afraid to reward yourself for getting through them.
Quit Smoking Effects You will start to feel your first signs of healing just less than 30 minutes from your very last puff.
