Male Menopause

The Physical Emotional and Mental Sides of Male Menopause

The Physical, Emotional and Mental Sides of Male Menopause Men are really good at hiding their feelings. They keep us guessing as to what they really think about most things. When it comes to their health they find it difficult to seek medical advice usually and you can count on the fact that if there is a sexual problem, they aren't talking about it. The male makeup generally makes it difficult to understand what is going on with them regarding conditions that are to do with their sexual side. Symptoms of male menopause are not only mental and emotional they are physical as well. The physical symptoms include difficulties in the sexual area. They may have a decreased sex drive, experience an inability to achieve an erection or to sustain one which to a male is a very disturbing occurrence. Their body shape may change as muscles become weaker and endurance suffers. Weight gain is common in the stomach or abdomen. Blood tests will reveal a drop in testosterone level. It is this drop that causes many of the symptoms. The emotional symptoms evolve basically because of an awareness of the physical symptoms. Especially the lack of sexual libido, sexual function and the loss of male identity sexual prowess bring to the male. Emotionally he struggles with how the imbalanced hormones make him feel. His macho pride makes it difficult to admit that he has a problem. Oddly enough it is the decrease of his male hormone testosterone that is giving him this grief. His emotions may appear outwardly as anger, moodiness or depression. The mental symptoms revolve around his seemingly short-term memory loss and inability to concentrate at home or at work. His lack of sleep exacerbates the situation, as he is unable to focus on every detail, as he might have been able to in the past. All of these groups of symptoms intertwine and some worsen over time. These symptoms can lead to feelings of low self-esteem. It may be the female (if there is one) involved that eventually convinces the male to seek medical advice. A good medical history detailing all the symptoms that have been experienced is a huge help in making the diagnosis. Because there is no obvious physical symptom like the cessation of the menses for the female, it is vitally important to record all pertinent facts regarding onset of symptoms, severity and to be able to share them with the healthcare provider. Symptoms are important in any illness or condition. Understanding why we act like we do can help others to deal with the situation. Physical symptoms usually suggest that there is an illness or disease that is best to be out in the open so it can be addressed.

Female Menopause

In this case everyone suffers, not just the male. As the hormonal levels continue to decrease the symptoms worsen or more symptoms surface. Often the first to notice the symptoms are the females involved.
