The Male Version of Menopause
The Male Version of Menopause There has been very little in the news about male menopause
and most people when they hear the words, "male menopause", say "what is that?", or don't you mean menopause for
women? They are so sure that you have made a mistake. The concept of men going through something similar to what
women go through when they cease to have monthly periods just seems inconceivable. Certainly men do not have
monthly menistration (periods) but there has been quite a few studies done since 1977 on the occurence of male
hormone loss or reduction earlier than what can be labeled as just being old age. The Institute of endocrinology
and Reproductive Medicine has actually recommended a treatment program for men suffering from male menopause. Male
menopause is a chemical, hormonal, and physiological change that males undergo between the ages of 30 and 65. These
changes can have an effect on several areas of a male's life. There have been noted to be several contributing
factors that have shown to be related to the occurance of male menopause in the studies that have been conducted.
These factors are: Circulation problems Hypertension (high blood pressure) Lack of adequate exercise Poor nutrition
Smoking The consumption of alcohol in excessive amounts Those who have been diagnosed with male menopause have in
common the following symptoms as well: Depression Emotional issues which may lead to conflicts with their spouse or
partner Loss of height Low levels of testosterone that lead to extreme fatigue, weakened endurance and muscle
strength, and difficulty concentrating and also difficulties accomplishing or maintaining erections. Because so
many people are unaware of male menopause, males who are experiencing symptoms suffer not knowing that what they
are going through has a cause and a treatment. Those who live with them are often confused by their actions and it
is difficult for spouses or partners to grasp what is happening. This inability to understand what is happening can
lead to relationship difficulties and damage that could result in separations or divorce. Especially troubling to
the men are the sexual symptoms that mimic impotence making them feel like less of a man. As news of the existence
of male menopause spreads more men will be told that there symptoms have meaning and that there are things that can
be done to ease their symptoms. Medical personnel are becoming more aware of the studies done regarding male
menopause and the hormone replacement therapies are becoming more known and are being prescribed more often to aid
in the loss of testosterone responsible for some of the symptoms.
Treatment For Male Menopause
" The crisis may not be all psychological. It may be influenced by male hormone imbalance according to Dr. Karpas, who first published his research regarding male menopause in 1977. His theory includes symptoms, causes and the effects it has on the male body and his lifestyle.
