Self Esteem and Male Menopause
Self-Esteem and Male Menopause When a man reaches middle age in our culture, he has seen
many things and learned much throughout his life. He has been largely formed by the forces that have surrounded him
as he went from infancy to childhood, from childhood to young adulthood, and then from there into full adulthood.
Every step of the way there have been examples for him to follow and standards for him to meet, so you might say
that todays middle-aged man has been training for this moment his entire life. Having been formed and trained by so
many influences along his journey to middle age, it is quite natural that he will be well set in his ways. After
all, as the old saying goes, you cant teach old dog new tricks. However, a professional dog trainer once told me
that you can, indeed, teach the old dog some new tricks, you simply need to know what will motivate him to learn.
Lets keep his words in mind as we consider the case of a good and decent man who finds himself suffering from male
menopause at the age of fifty two. He grew up in a home that was comfortable and had a loving mother and a strong
figure of a man for a father. The strength of his father was always a true comfort to him. He embraced his fathers
philosophy and became a decisive man of action, a real go-getter. This is how he wanted to be, and this is how he
wanted to be seen. Everything seemed to go according to his plan for several years, but then his father died
snatched away by a heart attack quite suddenly. He was swept with grief that was sometimes inconsolable. His wife
gently suggested that he go see his physician and get a checkup, but he didnt. Soon other happenings intruded into
his life. He had always kept fit, but it was getting difficult to muster the endurance to work out as he always had
before. His hair was thinning, his waist was gradually growing, and he began to have trouble sleeping. Sleeping
wasnt the only problem in his bed, he had begun to frequently fail to achieve an erection, or if he did achieve one
it didnt last nearly as long as he felt that it should. He sadly concluded that he was no longer the man he once
was, and although his family loved him dearly, he began to have doubts about who he was and what he was doing in
life. Then the forgetfulness began, and his wife finally talked him into going to the doctor. At the doctors office
he learned that he had male menopause and began receiving hormone replacement therapy. It seemed like a hood that
had been over his eyes was lifted and he stopped doubting his own value in the scheme of things. Today he is happy
and is glad to show the whole world how pleased he is to be who he is, where he is. That old dog learned some new
tricks.
Treatment For Male Menopause
" The crisis may not be all psychological. It may be influenced by male hormone imbalance according to Dr. Karpas, who first published his research regarding male menopause in 1977. His theory includes symptoms, causes and the effects it has on the male body and his lifestyle.
