Male Menopause Treatment Options

Male Menopause Treatment Options You are a male and you have just received the diagnosis of Male Menopause. You are relieved, embarrassed, confused and not entirely sure what to do next. Your healthcare professional will help guide you to some of your options for treatment. Some options will have a price attached, such as hormone replacement therapy. Other options will require that you make some lifestyle changes. The treatment will be individualized to your symptoms, your age and your current lifestyle. Hormone Replacement Therapy: Hormone replacement therapy's aim is to replace the testosterone lost through various methods. These methods include the following vehicles of administration: injections, oral medications, patches, and also implants. Injection The most common method of testosterone therapy is the injection. The downside to receiving testosterone in this manner is of course, the needle. The other negative aspect is that the injections are given in intervals of one to three weeks depending on the brand of drug used. The injections need to be administered by a medical professional and that requires office visits. Injections can have the side effect of weight gain. Weight gain is already a symptom of male menopause so receiving injections may aggravate this symptom. Pills This method is commonly used for older male patients in an effort to maintain their levels of testosterone. These are the same pills that are prescribed to induce delayed puberty. The undesirable side effect of using these pills is that they have a known risk of liver damage. Men taking pills should be closely monitored by a healthcare professional. Patches This method has been in the news as they are popular and easy to use. Most are self-adhesive patches of gel. Patches are applied to the skin and must be changed daily. The skin absorbs the dried gel and then the testosterone is released throughout the day. One possible side effect for patch users is skin irritation. Implants Pellet implants have already been used to deliver the testosterone for patients who suffer from hypogonadism, which is a condition when the testes do not produce enough hormones. The implants are inserted into the abdomen, buttocks or the upper arm. This is a delivery method that only needs repeating every 6 months. Lifestyle Changes: The most important lifestyle change is to implement a daily exercise program. This can be a variety of activities. Anything that gets you up and moving will be an improvement. A simple stroll for 30 minutes each morning, or a swim at the local community pool. Do a power-walk with a neighbor or buddy. Play a friendly game of ping-pong, tennis, or badminton. Dietary lifestyle changes should include eating more fruits and vegetables especially broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower and also staying away from processed foods, fats and sugars. Supplements that will aid your diet are: taking in 50 milligrams twice daily of zinc just until your testosterone levels improve and also 1000 to 3000 milligrams of vitamin C. A nutritionist or other healthcare professional should carefully monitor all supplements added to your diet. High potency multivitamins and mineral supplements will most likely also be added to your regimen. Lastly, it is important to understand the stress you are encountering in your daily life and to do things to relieve that stress source. Avoid stressful situations when possible or at least try to lessen their influence on you. Counteract stress with stress reducing activities like meditation, yoga, stretching exercises and calming or soothing external factors like music, waterfalls or the ocean waves lapping at your feet. A stroll along a beach or a walk in the park can do wonders for relieving tension. Pay attention to relationship issues and inform those close to you about your diagnosis so that you can receive their understanding and support.
