Proteins are found in meats, poultry, fish, dairy products, and also beans and certain vegetables.

Try to eat more of the poultry and fish and less of the red meat. Do not eat the skin from poultry and trim any fat from your meat before preparing.

When selecting dairy products use the non-fat varieties and stay away from mayonnaise-based dishes, egg yolks, bacon, and other high-fat dairy products.

Fat-free versions of food will often contain carbohydrates or sugars so check the labels when making purchases.

It is important to check your blood glucose level on a regular basis so that you will know if it is low or high.

Exercise can make your blood sugar lower. If you check your blood glucose level and find that it is low you can drink a fruit drink or a regular soda and your sugar level should return to a higher level quickly.

If you notice that you are very thirsty, are urinating a lot, or have blurred vision, your blood glucose level may be too high.

Check the blood level and contact your doctor for instructions.
