It is estimated that approximately 80% of people will have some sort of lower back problem during their life. Most of the time these problems will go away with time and proper care, and not have any long last effects.
Your back is made up of bone, muscles, nerves and other soft tissues. Just about every move we make depends upon our back being healthy. When something goes amiss it can severely hamper the person's lifestyle.
Unfortunately, back pain can happen to anyone, at any time. This pain can cause mild discomfort, to a very severe pain that seriously keeps the person from doing anything.
Common triggers for Back Pain include:
- poor posture,
- lack of exercise,
- standing or bending down for long periods,
- sitting in a chair that doesn’t provide enough back support,
- sleeping on a bed that doesn’t provide enough back support,
- lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling loads that are too heavy, or doing these things in the wrong way,
- a trip or fall.

- being overweight,
Many of these things can be avoided with proper training about protecting your back.

There are millions of people in the world who have some sort of back pain, and many more that are just asking to develop this uncomfortable nuisance. Unfortunately, many people do not know why their back hurts, and a lot of people think that it is just a part of their everyday life; but this does not have to be true. Short term back pain usually only lasts a couple of days or more. If you experience pain for any longer than this you will want to look into what is causing you discomfort. Most short term back pain is usually caused by one of two things. First off, trauma to the back area can cause this pain. So if you were recently struck in the back, or were forced to be in an uncomfortable position for an extended period of time, this may be the reason that you are hurting. Another reason that a lot of people suffer back pain is because of arthritis. This usually happens at an older age, but it is not completely uncommon for this to happen in members of the younger generation.
If you think that you are suffering from back pain, but are not exactly sure, you will need to find out if you are experiencing any symptoms. There are many symptoms that go along with back pain; all of which are easily identifiable. A muscle ache or pain is the first sign that you are having back troubles. If it is accompanied by shooting pains, or limited flexibility it is safe to say that you are having a short term back problem. But just because these are symptoms of short term pain does not mean that you should take them lightly. Many serious back problems also have the same symptoms.
Chronic back pain is discomfort that lasts for three months or longer. If you have an ongoing problem that you cannot seem to get rid of, it is most likely chronic back problem. If this sounds like you, you will definitely need to visit a doctor. They will be able to properly diagnose your situation, and let you know what the best plan of action is. By putting this off, you may run into more troubles in the long run. The number one thing that you will notice about back pain is that it is progressive. In other words, the pain will get worse and worse as the days go by. This is why visiting a doctor is important.
Overall, back pain is a serious health issue that causes many people discomfort every year. If this is a problem that you are experiencing you will want to first make sure you determine if you are having short term or chronic pain. This will allow you to figure out your best treatment method. Often times, visiting a doctor or a specialist may be the best way to get a proper diagnosis.
