It is estimated that approximately 80% of people will have some sort of lower back problem during their life. Most of the time these problems will go away with time and proper care, and not have any long last effects.
Your back is made up of bone, muscles, nerves and other soft tissues. Just about every move we make depends upon our back being healthy. When something goes amiss it can severely hamper the person's lifestyle.
Unfortunately, back pain can happen to anyone, at any time. This pain can cause mild discomfort, to a very severe pain that seriously keeps the person from doing anything.

The most common way is through poor sitting posture. People who work in offices and sit for most of the day will experience back pain. Slouching, not aligning the body correctly with keyboards, monitors, and other equipment is the main cause.
People who stand all day working on assembly lines can also suffer from back pain. It is important to learn how to stand and sit correctly when performing certain job functions like answering phones, typing, packaging products, and other repetitious activities.
Learning how to sit and stand may prevent back pain from starting, but there are ways to ease the pain once it has begun. It is a good idea to visit a doctor after the pain begins especially if the pain occurred after a sports related activity or from some type of prolonged activity such as gardening. Depending on your age, you might be suffering from a pulled muscle, arthritis, or internal injury that will need to be examined further. Once it has been established what the pain actually is, there are a few ways people can lessen the pain and help the muscles relax and help the body begin to repair the damage.
Over the counter back pain medication will help reduce swelling of muscles and make the pain temporarily disappear. This medication should not be overused and the directions should be followed when taking it. This medication should only be taken for a few days as an aide to help a person sleep and function throughout the day.
Another way to ease muscle soreness and pain is to use hot and cold pads. Alternate between hot and cold pads throughout the day for a few days. This will help the muscles relax and also help reduce swelling. For those who prefer not to take medication, this way of healing the body should result in the muscles feeling better. Hot and cold pads are filled with gel and can be frozen and heated in the microwave to provide hours of comfort. This is recommended if a person has the time to lie down and keep the body from moving around too much.
Back pain comes and goes for most people. By practicing good posture while sitting and standing, by stretching throughout the day to keep the body limber, and by correctly lifting heavy objects, people will not strain their back muscles as often. Sports injuries can also be reduced by stretching and by not overworking the body. Accidents happen and unfortunately, back pain, if the injury was severe, can last a lifetime. People need to take care of their bodies and not let injuries occur. By being safe, people can reduce the number of back pain injuries.
