Thick floor mats, equipment at eye level, and proper procedures for handling merchandise that is on a high shelf or on the floor need to be taught to employees. Proper lifting techniques need to be taught in order to ensure employee safety. Heavy items need to be lifted by two or more people. This will help the back remain strong and in alignment. Sports injuries and car accidents are two common reasons for back injury. Many people strain their backs by hitting the concrete sidewalks too hard while running. Padded running shoes were invented to adsorb most of the shock from harder surfaces. People also hurt their backs playing contact sports such as football.
Pulling a back muscle is easy if a person is not watching what they are doing. In the case of car accidents, people who are rear-ended may injure their backs from the impact. This can cause the vertebrae to bend and become very uncomfortable. People may need surgery to correct this problem. It is important to always wear one’s seatbelt so that they are not thrown forward and then pushed back in side the car by gravity. These injuries cannot be prevented. Accidents happen, but the pain can be very difficult to live with.
